こんにちは、東南アジアだーいすきなホステルオーナーのはづきです。人生3回目、そして約1年ぶりにラオスに来ましたこの国の静かで素朴な空気感、何度来てもやっぱりたまらない。
Hi, I’m Hazuki, a hostel owner who absolutely loves Southeast Asia. This is my third time in Laos and my first visit in about a year. No matter how many times I come, I can’t get enough of this country’s calm and simple atmosphere.
ラオス旅行で多くの人が悩むのが、ビエンチャンからバンビエンへの移動方法。検索すると高速鉄道がよく出てきますが、実際に両方使った結論としては「ミニバンもかなり現実的な選択肢」です。今回は前回の鉄道利用との比較も含めて体験ベースで書きます。
One of the biggest questions travelers have in Laos is how to get from Vientiane to Vang Vieng. When you search, the high-speed railway often comes up, but having used both, my conclusion is that “minivans are also a very practical option.” This time, I’ll explain based on my experience, including a comparison with my previous train trip.
まず今回使ったのは乗合ミニバン。料金は片道約2,000円、所要時間は2.5〜3時間ほど。最大のメリットは「市内中心部発着」であることです。ホテル近くまで迎えに来てくれて、そのままバンビエン市内まで連れていかれるので、余計な移動が一切ありません。これが想像以上にラクです。というのも、前回使った高速鉄道は駅が市内からかなり離れていて、タクシーで約50分。正直この移動がだいぶ面倒でした。しかも鉄道自体の料金もミニバンより高めなので、トータルで見ると「時間もお金も余計にかかってない？」という印象になります
This time I used a shared minivan. The cost was about ¥2,000 one way, and it takes around 2.5–3 hours. The biggest advantage is that it departs from and arrives in the city center. They pick you up near your hotel and take you directly into Vang Vieng, so there’s no extra transfer at all. This is much easier than expected. The last time I used the high-speed train, the station was far from the city and required about a 50-minute taxi ride, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Plus, the train itself is more expensive than the minivan, so overall it feels like you’re spending more time and money.
一方でミニバンはシンプルに安くて手軽。ただしデメリットもはっきりしています。まず、とにかく狭い！狭すぎる！ギリギリまで人と荷物を詰め込むので、座席はかなりタイトです。バックパッカー前提の設計なので、快適さを求める人には正直しんどいと思います。わたし自身は移動できりゃ何でもええという感じなんだけど…また、高速道路をかっ飛ばしていくので運転もそこそこ荒め。笑 酔いやすい人は注意が必要です。それでも「短時間だからまあ耐えられる」というレベルではあります。
On the other hand, minivans are cheap and simple. But the downsides are clear. First, they are very cramped—extremely cramped. People and luggage are packed in tightly, so the seats are quite narrow. Since they are designed mainly for backpackers, those looking for comfort may find it tough. Personally, I’m fine as long as I can get there, but the driving can also be quite rough since they speed along the highway. If you get motion sickness easily, be careful. Still, since it’s a short trip, it’s generally tolerable.
そして今回いちばん「ラオスっぽいな」と思ったのがピックアップの仕組み。集合場所はビエンチャン市内のハードロックカフェのロビー（？）だったのですが、ここで待っていても誰が自分のドライバーなのか全く分からないから本当にわかるんか？？と。看板もなければ明確な呼び出しもなく、なんとなく車が来て、なんとなく声をかけられるというスタイルです。ありがたいことにハードロックカフェのフロアマネージャーの女性は超シゴデキな雰囲気の漂う英語ペラペラの方。待ちながら軽食いただいてたのですが、あらかじめ乗合ミニバンの話をしておきました。
What felt especially “Laos-like” this time was the pickup system. The meeting point was the Hard Rock Cafe lobby in Vientiane, but even if you wait there, you have no idea who your driver is. There are no signs or clear calls—it’s just that a car shows up and someone casually calls out to you. Fortunately, the floor manager at Hard Rock Cafe was very capable and spoke fluent English. While waiting and having a light meal, I explained my minivan situation in advance.
ちなみに今回のミニバン予約はKlook経由でしたが、実際に来るのはKlookのスタッフではなく、ローカルのツアー会社。しかもなんかわたしの予約バウチャー画面と、そのドライバーのおじさんが見せてくる社名？がぜんぜん違うんですけどwwwどういうことなの。KLOOKの下請けの下請け？？よく分からないんだけど、つまり予約したプラットフォームと現場は完全に別ってことなんです。
By the way, I booked this minivan through Klook, but the actual operator was not Klook staff—it was a local tour company. And strangely, the company name shown on my voucher was completely different from what the driver showed me. I was like, what is going on? A subcontractor of a subcontractor? I’m not sure, but basically the booking platform and the actual operator are completely separate.
じゃあどうやって判断するのかというと、ほぼ雰囲気です。今回も「待ち合わせ場所が合ってる」「予約人数が合ってる」この2点だけで普通に乗せてもらえました。最初はかなり不安になりますが、だいたいそれで合っているんやろな。このあたりは日本的な正確さを求めるとストレスになるので、「こういうもの」と割り切るのがコツです。バンビエンにいけりゃ何でもええ、というスタンスなのでわたくしは問題なし。
So how do you confirm it? Basically by vibe. This time, I was able to board just by confirming two things: the meeting point and the number of passengers. It feels a bit uncertain at first, but it usually works out. If you expect Japanese-level precision, it can be stressful, so it’s better to accept that “this is how it works.” As long as I get to Vang Vieng, I’m fine.
あともう一点、今後の注意点として料金の話。現地で実際にみましたが最近はガソリン価格がかなり上がっているとのこと。背景には急激に悪化した中東情勢（イラン周辺など）の影響があります。内陸国であり、燃料を輸入に頼っているラオスでは価格変動の影響を受けやすいようです。ガソリンスタンドの価格はリッター300円ぐらいでした。こちらの給料とかを考えたらとんでもない価格です。現時点では片道2,000円前後で乗れますが、近い将来じわじわ値上げされても不思議ではありません。
One more important point is about pricing. I saw locally that fuel prices have been rising significantly. This is influenced by worsening geopolitical conditions in the Middle East, including around Iran. Laos, being a landlocked country that relies on imported fuel, is highly affected by price fluctuations. Gasoline was around ¥300 per liter, which is extremely expensive considering local wages. Currently, you can still ride for around ¥2,000 one way, but it wouldn’t be surprising if prices gradually increase in the near future.
まとめると、ビエンチャンからバンビエンの移動は「何を優先するか」で選び方が変わります。快適さや安定感を求めるなら高速鉄道、ただし駅までの移動コストと時間は要考慮。一方でミニバンは狭さや多少のカオスを受け入れれば、コスパと効率のバランスがかなり良い。個人的には、短期旅行やバックパッカー的な動き方をするならミニバンが最適解だと感じました。「また使うならどっち？」と聞かれたら、たぶんミニバンを選びます。
In summary, the best way to travel from Vientiane to Vang Vieng depends on your priorities. If you want comfort and reliability, the high-speed train is better—but you need to consider the time and cost of getting to the station. On the other hand, if you can accept tight space and a bit of chaos, the minivan offers excellent cost performance and efficiency. Personally, for short trips or backpacker-style travel, I think the minivan is the best option. If asked which I’d choose again, I’d probably go with the minivan.
【追記】
今回ちょっと往路の利用でトラブルがあって、事前にKlookで予約していたミニバンが来ませんでした。指定時間に指定場所で待っていて、さらにそこから30-60分しっかり待機。WhatsAppも電話も試したし、案内にあったLINE IDも検索したけどヒットせず。完全に連絡が取れない状態で、「これどうするの？」ってなりました。笑
I actually ran into a problem this time—the minivan I booked through Klook never showed up. I waited at the designated place until 13:00, tried contacting them via WhatsApp and phone, and even searched for the LINE ID they provided, but nothing worked. I couldn’t reach them at all, and I was like, “What do I do now?”
結局その場で別の手段を探すことになって、ホテルの人に相談したらすぐにミニバンを手配してくれました。こういう時、現地の人に頼るのが一番早い。
In the end, I had to find another option on the spot, and when I asked the hotel staff, they arranged a minivan for me right away. In situations like this, relying on locals is definitely the fastest solution.
その後Klookのサポートにも連絡したんですが、ここが正直しんどかった…。チャットがなかなか繋がらないし、やりとりも時間がかかる。最終的には返金対応してくれる方向ではあるけど、即時解決という感じではなくて、精神的にちょっと消耗しました。
I also contacted Klook support afterward, but honestly, that part was exhausting. The chat support took a long time to connect, and the whole process was slow. They are working toward a refund, but it’s not immediate, and it was mentally draining.
で、実際にホテルで手配してもらったミニバンは1人200,000キープ（約1,400円 / 約$10前後）。これで全然問題なかったし、むしろスムーズで快適。
The minivan arranged by the hotel cost 200,000 kip per person (around ¥1,400 / about $10), and it worked perfectly fine. It was actually smooth and comfortable.
ラオスはミニバンを運行している会社がたくさんあるので、「予約した便に乗れない＝詰む」みたいな状況にはなりにくいです。なんだかんだ代替手段はすぐ見つかる。
In Laos, there are many companies operating minivans, so even if your booked one doesn’t show up, you’re not completely stuck. You can usually find an alternative pretty quickly.
そしてもうひとつ大事なポイント。どうせミニバンはすし詰めですｗこれはどの会社でもほぼ変わらない。
And one more important point—minivans are packed anyway lol. That doesn’t really change no matter which company you use.
なので結論としては、
・事前予約は安心材料にはなるけど絶対ではない
・トラブル時は現地で即対応するのが一番早い
・価格もそこまで大きく変わらない
っていう感じ。むしろ柔軟に動ける方がストレス少なくておすすめです。So in conclusion:
– Booking in advance gives some peace of mind, but it’s not guaranteed
– If something goes wrong, handling it locally is the fastest
– Prices don’t vary that much anyway
Being flexible actually leads to a much less stressful experience.
