This time, I want to share a deeper look at Vang Vieng’s Blue Lagoons from the perspective of a seasoned traveler. In short, the famous Blue Lagoons, especially No. 3, are definitely fun, but they are far from town and take both time and money, so they are basically a half-day trip. And if you’re traveling with small children, the tuk-tuk ride is honestly pretty tough. That’s why I want to introduce another Blue Lagoon option that is closer to town, safer, and still highly satisfying.

有名ブルーラグーンの弱点

The downside of the famous Blue Lagoons

ラオスバンビエンの定番ブルーラグーンは、市街地から離れているためトゥクトゥクのチャーターかレンタルバイク・レンタカーが前提になりがち。目安として半日〜1日チャーターで500,000キープ（約3,700円）。距離があるし、そこまでの道は悪く、未舗装も穴も多いので揺れが激しい。大人でも体力を削られるレベルで、小さい子どもはかなり危険。帰りは疲れて寝がちですが、ウトウトできる環境ではありませんwwwここが結構ハードルになります。
The standard Blue Lagoons in Vang Vieng, Laos are far from the town center, so you usually need to charter a tuk-tuk or rent a motorbike or car. As a rough guide, a half-day to full-day charter costs around 500,000 kip, about 3,700 yen. The distance is one thing, but the road there is rough, with unpaved sections and lots of potholes, so the ride is extremely bumpy. It’s tiring even for adults, and for small children it can be quite risky. On the way back, kids are often exhausted and sleepy, but it’s definitely not the kind of environment where they can doze off comfortably lol. That part is a pretty big hurdle.

解決策：市街地近くの穴場「タム・チャン洞窟＋St. Peter’s Pool」

Solution: the hidden gem near town, “Tham Chang Cave + St. Peter’s Pool”

ここで提案したいのが、タム・チャン洞窟（Tham Chang Cave）とSt. Peter’s Pool。市街地から徒歩でも行ける（1.2キロ）距離感で、スクーターや車でもほんの数分。川の手前に駐車場があり、入場は1人22,000キープ（約170円）。子どもも同額で、料金体系もシンプル。小さな橋を渡ると整備された公園のようなエリアが広がり、観光地になっています。敷地自体の広さがあるので人がいても気にならないのがポイントです。
What I’d recommend here is Tham Chang Cave and St. Peter’s Pool. It’s close enough to walk from town, about 1.2 km, and only a few minutes by scooter or car. There is a parking area before the river, and admission is 22,000 kip per person, about 170 yen. Children pay the same, so the pricing system is simple. Once you cross a small bridge, you arrive in a well-maintained area that feels like a park and functions as a tourist spot. One nice point is that the grounds are spacious enough that even when other people are there, it doesn’t feel crowded.

体験の中身：洞窟×ブルーラグーンが1カ所で完結

What you get: cave + Blue Lagoon in one place

できれば行っておきたいのが洞窟。入口まで続く石段は段数も角度もなかなかハードで、軽い登山に近い負荷がありますが、その分中のスケールが大きい。石灰岩カルスト地形ならではの鍾乳洞で、探検感がしっかり味わえる。ライトも整備されているので、ヘッドライトなどなくても十分楽しめます。
If possible, you should definitely visit the cave. The stone steps leading up to the entrance are fairly tough in both number and steepness, almost like a light hike, but that makes the scale inside feel even more impressive. It’s a limestone karst cave, so you really get that sense of exploration. The lighting is well set up too, so you can enjoy it without needing a headlamp or anything like that.

そして麓にあるのがSt. Peter’s Pool。いわゆる“小さめブルーラグーン”ですが、水はしっかり透明で青いから満足度は高い。地下水が石灰岩を通ってろ過されるため、見た目以上に深さがあり、飛び込みやジップラインも楽しめます。透明度が高い分、浅く見えるのでそこは要注意。子どもが遊ぶ場合は必ずライフジャケットを。
At the base is St. Peter’s Pool. It’s basically a smaller Blue Lagoon, but the water is still beautifully clear and blue, so the satisfaction level is high. Because the groundwater is filtered through limestone, it is deeper than it looks, and you can enjoy cliff jumping and even a zipline. Since the water is so clear, it can appear shallow, so be careful. If children are playing there, a life jacket is a must.

トイレはもちろん、売店やレストランが充実しているので、長時間滞在でも困りません。（有料コインロッカーとかはない）レンタルも一通り揃っていて、ライフジャケットが1人20,000キープ（約150円）、タイヤの浮き輪も1つ20,000キープ（約150円）。価格も明確で良心的〜〜！これだけ揃っていれば、わざわざ遠くのブルーラグーンに行かなくても十分成立します。地元の子供とおぼしき普段着姿の男の子達もたくさん。ものすごい高い位置にある飛び込み台からどんどん飛び込んでいます…ぱっと見5メートルは超えてる高さ！凄すぎる！
There are, of course, toilets, plus plenty of small shops and restaurants, so even if you stay a long time, you won’t have any trouble. There are no paid coin lockers or anything like that, though. Rental options are also well covered: life jackets are 20,000 kip per person, about 150 yen, and rubber tube floats are also 20,000 kip each, about 150 yen. The prices are clearly shown and very reasonable. With facilities like this, you really do not need to go all the way out to the faraway Blue Lagoons. There were also lots of local boys in everyday clothes, presumably local kids, jumping one after another from an incredibly high diving platform. At a glance it looked over 5 meters high. Honestly amazing.

子連れ・初心者に向く理由

Why it suits families with children and beginners

・移動が短い（徒歩〜数分）
・揺れの激しいトゥクトゥク不要
・設備が整っていて安全に遊びやすい

・The travel time is short, from walking distance to just a few minutes
・No need for a rough, bumpy tuk-tuk ride
・The facilities are well prepared, so it’s easier and safer to enjoy

この4点で、ファミリーや初心者にかなり適しています。逆に、バックパッカーで「よりワイルドな体験」を求める人は遠方のブルーラグーンでもいいですが、総合効率で見るとこちらが優位かも！
For these reasons, it’s a very good fit for families and beginners. On the other hand, backpackers looking for a wilder experience may still prefer the more distant Blue Lagoons, but in terms of overall efficiency, this one might actually come out ahead.
