こんにちは、東南アジアだーいすきなホステルオーナーのはづきです。人生3回目、そして約1年ぶりにラオスに来ましたこの国の静かで素朴な空気感、何度来てもやっぱりたまらない。
Hi, I’m Hazuki, a hostel owner who absolutely loves Southeast Asia. This is my third time in Laos, and my first visit in about a year. No matter how many times I come, I still can’t resist this country’s quiet and simple atmosphere.
今日は「そんなにお金かけなくてもめ〜ちゃくちゃ楽しめる」というのを体感した1日。遠出はせず、市街地から近いタムチャン洞窟とその周辺でゆるく遊びました。
Today was one of those days that reminded me you can have an insanely good time without spending much money. We didn’t go far, and just spent the day casually enjoying Tham Chang Cave and the nearby area close to town.
入場料は2人で44,000キープ（約340円）。洞窟は軽い登山みたいな石段を登る必要があるけど、その分ちゃんと探検感があって面白い。下に降りると水遊びエリアがあって、ここがまたちょうどいいサイズ感。浮き輪を20,000キープ（約150円）、ライフジャケットも20,000キープ（約150円）でレンタルして、のんびり川遊び。透明度は高いけど普通に深いので、これは借りたほうが安心。
The entrance fee was 44,000 kip for two people, about 340 yen. You have to climb a stone staircase that feels a bit like a light hike, but that makes the cave feel more adventurous and fun. Down below, there’s a water play area, and it’s just the right size. We rented a tube for 20,000 kip (about 150 yen) and a life jacket for another 20,000 kip (about 150 yen), then just relaxed in the water. The water is very clear, but it’s also properly deep, so I definitely recommend renting them.
途中で喉が渇いて売店へ。サマーズビーを25,000キープ（約190円）で購入して、さらに氷と容器を2個で10,000キープ（約75円）。この「氷は別料金」文化、やっぱり合理的で好き。キンキンに冷えた状態で飲めるだけで満足度が段違いだわ。
Halfway through, we got thirsty and went to a small shop. I bought a Somersby for 25,000 kip (about 190 yen), plus ice and two cups for 10,000 kip (about 75 yen). I still kind of love this “ice costs extra” culture. It feels oddly rational, and honestly, just being able to drink it ice cold makes a huge difference in satisfaction.
小腹が空いたので軽く焼き鳥。4本で30,000キープ（約230円）。こういうローカル寄りの食べ物はちゃんと安い。
We got a little hungry, so we grabbed some grilled chicken. Four skewers were 30,000 kip (about 230 yen). Local-style food like this really is properly cheap.
…ここまでは完全に節約優等生だったんだけど、最後にやらかしました。笑
…Up to this point, we had been perfect budget travelers, but then right at the end, we messed it up. Haha.
息子が「屋台で売ってるハンバーガー食べたい」と言い出して、ポークハンバーガー70,000キープ（約540円）、フレンチフライ50,000キープ（約380円）を追加。いや、今日一番高級なご飯それなんですがwww 完全に大人のご飯より高い。ラオスあるあるで、ローカル飯は安いのに“ちょっと西洋っぽいもの”になると一気に値段跳ね上がり〜 まあ全然イイんだけどさ
My son suddenly said he wanted to eat a burger from a street stall, so we added a pork burger for 70,000 kip (about 540 yen) and French fries for 50,000 kip (about 380 yen). Honestly, that ended up being the most expensive food of the day lol. It was totally pricier than an adult meal. Classic Laos: local food is cheap, but the moment something gets a little Western, the price jumps fast. Still, totally fine though.

So here’s the breakdown of what we spent today.

それでもこの内容で2,000円ちょっと。やっぱりラオスは「ローカルに寄せれば安いけど、ちょっと観光地・洋食寄りになると急に高くなる」というバランスが分かりやすい国。今日のハンバーガーがそれを象徴してました。
Even with all that, it only came to a little over 2,000 yen. Laos really makes it easy to see the balance: if you stick to local things, it’s cheap, but once you lean a little touristy or Western, prices jump quickly. Today’s burger was the perfect symbol of that.
本当に息子、一日中浮いてましたからね。ジャンプ台から飛び込むでもなく、アクティビティをするわけでもなく、ただ浮き輪とライフジャケットでぷかぷか。ずーっと同じ場所で漂ってるだけなんだけど、それがめちゃくちゃ楽しいらしい。気づいたら3時間ぐらい経ってたと思う。
My son was seriously floating all day. He wasn’t jumping from platforms or doing any activities, just drifting around with a tube and life jacket. He stayed in basically the same spot the whole time, but apparently that was incredibly fun for him. Before I knew it, about three hours had passed.
大人からすると「え、それだけ？」って感じなんだけど、あの透明な水とゆるい空気の中にいると、何もしない時間そのものが贅沢なんだなと実感する。こういう遊び方が成立するのもバンビエンのいいところで、ガチガチにアクティビティを詰め込まなくてもちゃんと満足できる。むしろ何もしないで浮いてるだけの時間が一番子供の記憶に残ったりするから不思議…
From an adult perspective, it kind of feels like, “That’s it?” But when you’re in that clear water and relaxed atmosphere, you realize that doing nothing is a luxury in itself. That’s one of the best things about Vang Vieng. You don’t have to pack your day full of activities to feel satisfied. In fact, it’s strangely often those simple hours of just floating around that stay in a child’s memory the most.
近場でここまで遊べてこの金額なら十分すぎる満足度。バンビエン、やっぱりいいです！本当にすき。
Being able to have this much fun so close to town for this price is more than satisfying. Vang Vieng really is great. I genuinely love it.
