A Very Special Weekend at Evergreen Hostel エバーグリーンホステルで過ごした、特別な週末
Hello! I’m Hazuki, the owner of Evergreen Hostel.
こんにちは！エバーグリーンホステルのオーナー葉月です。
This past weekend was incredibly rich and fulfilling. Not only were we almost fully booked—thank you!—but more than that, it was the amazing guests who made it so memorable.
この土日は本当に濃くて充実した2日間でした。ほぼ満室の状態だったこともありますが、それ以上に来てくれたお客様たちがとてもフレンドリーで、印象的な週末になりました。
Usually, I split my time between this hostel and another job, so I’m not always around. But since it was the weekend, I had the chance to spend a relaxed, longer time here.
普段はもう一つ仕事があるのでホステルにずっといるのは難しいのですが、週末だったのでのんびり過ごすことができました。

First, I helped two of our lovely female staff get dressed in yukata and sent them off to the Ujina Fireworks Festival. While they enjoyed the show, I took over at the reception.
まずは、女子スタッフ2人に浴衣を着せて、宇品港の花火大会へ送り出しました。私はその間、フロントでお留守番。
Then I got to meet all sorts of amazing guests. One was a Japanese woman who had lived in Rwanda for two years doing JICA work—what a story!
そこから素敵なお客様がたくさんいらっしゃいました。たとえば、JICAの活動で2年間ルワンダに住んでいたという日本人女性。とても印象的な方でした。

There was also a high school student from Ibaraki who came to Hiroshima to cheer for a friend in the national sports tournament (インターハイ), even though she herself is preparing for university entrance exams. So admirable!
そして、受験生なのに、友達のインターハイ応援に茨城から来ていた高校生もいました。がんばり屋さんで素敵ですよね。

On Sunday, we welcomed Zack, a teenager from Taiwan who will begin studying industrial design in Tainan this September. He’s a talented watercolor artist and even drew a portrait of the owner of the okonomiyaki shop across the street—then gave it to him as a gift!
日曜日には台湾から来たティーンネイジャー、Zackくんがチェックイン。9月から台南でインダストリアルデザインを学ぶそうです。彼は水彩画がとっても上手で、ホステルの向かいにあるお好み焼き屋さんの店主の似顔絵を描いて、なんとプレゼントまでしていました！

We also had a couple from Ho Chi Minh City, a group of two girls from Switzerland (aged 19 and 21), and two different guests from Spain: Jose and Carlos.
他にも、ホーチミンから来たカップルや、スイスから来た19歳と21歳の女子グループ、スペインから来たホセさんとカルロスさんもいらっしゃいました。
I even tried to say a few things in Spanish—just a little—but they appreciated the effort!
私もほんの少しだけスペイン語に挑戦しました。拙いながらも、喜んでくれたのが嬉しかったです！
The weekend was filled with wonderful encounters and rich conversations. Every time I think I’ve seen it all, new and beautiful surprises come along.
こんなふうに、いろんな出会いや会話ができる週末は本当に楽しくて、ホステルの仕事の面白さを再確認する瞬間です。

Even though this is our 10th year, I never get tired of it. Each year has a different vibe, and every month I work with different staff members. Guests come and go, and some even come back again and again.
10年目ともなると普通は飽きてもおかしくないと思われるかもしれませんが、私は全くそんなことはなくて。毎年雰囲気が違い、毎月違うスタッフと一緒に働くことも新鮮で楽しいし、入れ替わり立ち替わりのお客様との出会いにも飽きることがありません。
Next week, one of our regulars—Mr. Yeo from Korea—will be back. I’ve honestly lost count of how many times he’s stayed here!
来週には、何度来てくださってるかわからないくらいリピーターの韓国のヨさんがまた来てくれます。
