One of the best easy day trips from The Evergreen Hostel is heading out to Kure ✨ It’s less than an hour away and it has so much history packed into one place Kure was actually one of Japan’s most important naval bases ⚓️ and it’s where the famous battleship Yamato was built during World War II ️
One of the highlights is visiting the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Kure Museum, and it’s completely free ✨ The museum focuses on minesweeping which might sound random at first but it’s actually a huge part of Japan’s postwar naval work After WWII, there were thousands of naval mines left in Japanese waters and clearing them was essential to making shipping routes safe again ✨
You can also go inside a real submarine ️ which is such a unique experience Walking through it really makes you realize how tight and intense life must be onboard
I also did a short cruise around the harbor where you can see modern battleships and naval vessels up close ️ Kure is still an active base today, so you’re looking at real working ships ️⚓️ not just history
If you’re planning to go, it’s perfect timing because the Yamato Museum is reopening on April 23 ✨ It’s known for its massive 1:10 scale model of the Yamato ️ which is one of the largest battleships ever built
Such a fun and easy escape from the city and you learn way more than you expect ✨
エバーグリーンホステルから気軽に行ける最高の日帰りトリップのひとつが、呉✨ 市内から1時間以内で行けて、歴史がぎゅっと詰まった場所 呉はかつて日本でも重要な海軍基地のひとつで、第二次世界大戦中にはあの有名な戦艦大和が建造された場所なんです⚓️️
見どころのひとつが海上自衛隊呉史料館（てつのくじら館）で、なんと入館無料✨ 掃海（機雷除去）にフォーカスした展示で、一見地味に思えるけど実は戦後の日本にとってめちゃくちゃ重要な役割を果たしていました 戦後、日本の海には何千もの機雷が残されていて、それを取り除くことで安全な航路が回復されたんです✨
さらに本物の潜水艦の中にも入れるのがかなりレアな体験️ 中を歩くと、その狭さや緊張感がリアルに伝わってきてびっくり
港をぐるっと回るクルーズにも乗ったんだけど、現役の艦船や軍艦を間近で見られるのも面白い 呉は今も現役の基地だから、ただの展示じゃなくて“今動いてる船”が見られるのがポイント⚓️✨
ちょうど4月23日に大和ミュージアムもリニューアルオープン予定✨ 10分の1スケールの巨大な大和模型が有名で、世界最大級の戦艦の迫力を感じられるよ️
