Sandankyo Gorge in Hiroshima is a hidden gem for nature lovers, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful escape from the city. I recently had the chance to visit, and it was one of the most refreshing experiences I’ve had in a while. The trail takes you through a lush forest, alongside a crystal-clear river that’s so serene you can hear nothing but the sound of the flowing water and birds.
One of the highlights of my trip was reaching Kurobuchi, where I hopped on a small boat to cross the deep, emerald-green water. It felt like stepping into another world, far from the usual tourist crowds. The boat ride is short but offers stunning views of the cliffs and surrounding nature that you just can’t see from the trails.
The hike itself is not too challenging, but it does have a few steep spots. However, the effort is worth it. Especially in autumn, the gorge transforms into a vibrant canvas of red, orange, and yellow leaves. It’s a place where you can truly connect with nature and feel a sense of tranquility.
If you’re in Hiroshima and looking for an adventure off the beaten path, I highly recommend visiting Sandankyo. Just don’t forget your hiking shoes and camera because the views are unforgettable!
