Visiting Izumo Taisha was the main purpose of this trip.<br \/>\nIt was within a 10-minute walk to the approach to the shrine from the inn we stayed at. Izumo Taisha opens its gate at 6:30 am. We decided to visit there in the early morning because there are few people.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6000\" src=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/1-1.png\" alt=\"1\" width=\"312\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/1-1.png 312w, http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/1-1-300x201.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 312px) 100vw, 312px\" \/><br \/>\nIt was the coldest season of the year. I don\u2019t know if that\u2019s why, but we didn\u2019t have much chance to see people. After we worshipped at the shrine, we took a little walk around the grounds of the shrine. There were a lot more people by the time we were taking a walk.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6001\" src=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2-1.png\" alt=\"2\" width=\"316\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2-1.png 316w, http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/2-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 316px) 100vw, 316px\" \/><br \/>\nI personally see the approach to a shrine is uphill. However, the approach at Izumo Taisha is downhill.<br \/>\nI searched online and found out that it\u2019s very unusual in the shrines in Japan. It was very easy to walk down the stone-paved approach.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6002\" src=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/3-1.png\" alt=\"3\" width=\"206\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/3-1.png 206w, http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/3-1-197x300.png 197w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><br \/>\nIt was sunny the day we visited Izumo Taisha.<br \/>\nIt rained the day before\u2026. I heard the rain brings good fortune at Izumo Taisha. The reason is because the deities come to Izumo Taisha riding on the clouds.<br \/>\nIt was my first time to see a huge sacred straw rope (shimenawa), which I saw in the media many times.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6003\" src=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/4-1.png\" alt=\"4\" width=\"438\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/4-1.png 438w, http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/4-1-300x199.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 438px) 100vw, 438px\" \/><br \/>\nWow, it\u2019s amazing that people still make it by the hands. How long does it take to make it? I worried unnecessarily about the people who make it. This was because adults usually don\u2019t have sticky hands and their hands must be rough\u2026. I appreciate their dedication.<br \/>\nThe air of the grounds of the shrine was crisper and fresher than usual. This was because it was early in the morning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6004\" src=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/5-1.png\" alt=\"5\" width=\"320\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/5-1.png 320w, http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/5-1-300x197.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was cold, but it was pleasant. I felt like standing up straight.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, we bow twice, clap our hands twice and bow once again during our prayers. However, Izumo Taisha is different. Visitors bow twice, clap their hands four times and bow once again. We have to clap our hands more than usual! I thought this was for calling attention to the deities, \u201cPlease look at me!
