make Wagashi by yourself!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, I\u2019m Danny.\u00a0 Have you ever eaten <em>wagashi<\/em>, traditional Japanese confectionery with a seasonal design?<\/p>\n<p>There are <em>sakuramochi<\/em>, <em>kashiwamochi<\/em>, <em>mizu-yokan<\/em>, <em>ohagi<\/em>, <em>botamochi<\/em>, etc.\u3000<em>Jo-namagashi<\/em> is said to be <em>namagashi<\/em> (wet confectionery) that is superior to the other <em>wagashi<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>You have little chance to eat <em>jo-namagashi<\/em> unless you are invited to a tea ceremony.\u00a0 However, I think many of you have seen various designs of <em>jo-namagashi<\/em> at department stores and their designs change depending on the season.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I\u2019ll introduce you to the experience of making <em>wagashi<\/em>\u266c\u266c\u266c<\/p>\n<p>There were various designs of <em>jo-namagashi<\/em>.\u00a0 They were all ravishingly beautiful.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5457\" src=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/\uff13-3.jpg\" alt=\"\uff13\" width=\"505\" height=\"273\" sizes=\"(max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <em>wagashi<\/em> confectioners at the shop received the award of \u201cMinister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries\u201d at National Confectionery Exposition held in Hiroshima in 2013.\u00a0 I know this is a cliche, but it\u2019s amazing\u2026!!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full sizes=\"(max-width: 279px) 100vw, 279px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was led into a room at the back when it was time for the workshop.\u00a0 The room was neat and tidy with a refrigerator and a sink.\u00a0 I put on my apron and ran water over my towel.\u00a0 All set!<\/p>\n<p>Every month, you make 2 kinds of <em>jo-namagashi<\/em>.\u00a0 They change what they make depending on the season. \u00a0For August, they were \u201cmorning glory\u201d and \u201ccrab\u201d for children\u2019s workshop.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5459\" src=\"http:\/\/evergreenhostel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/5-3.jpg\" alt=\"5\" width=\"446\" height=\"300\" sizes=\"(max-width: 446px) 100vw, 446px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I thought they were made of <em>shiroan<\/em> (white bean paste) and <em>azukian<\/em> (red bean paste).<\/p>\n<p>For September, the confections were \u201crabbit\u201d and \u201cbear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5460\" and chocolate flavor paste for \u201cbear.\u201d\u00a0 Lemon flavor paste was lightly sweetened and I liked it very much\u2026!The best part of joining a workshop is that you can try bean paste that is out of the ordinary ( \u00b4\u8278\uff40)<\/p>\n<p>If you are participating in a workshop for adults, you make either <em>nerikiri<\/em> or <em>dorayaki<\/em> (a bean-jam pancake) by using an electric griddle.\u00a0 How exciting it is to find out what you can make this month, because they change confections every month\u266a<\/p>\n<p>The confectioners at the workshop of <em>nerikiri<\/em> had already prepared portions for each of us, so all I needed to do was to knead dough and create the shape of the animals. \u00a0For this reason, don\u2019t worry if you are all thumbs when it comes foreign countries are always welcome to participate in a workshop!\u00a0 The confectioners are not fluent in English, so they use gestures to explain how to make confections.<\/p>\n<p>First, confectioners will show you how to make it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5462\" of your hand if you knead too much and it sticks to your hand.\u00a0 Stop kneading where the softness is just about right.\u00a0 After kneading, start kneading another dough&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I thought it was easy to knead dough because the confectioners did it easily, but it wasn\u2019t. \u00a0It was a little harder than I expected.\u3000I became anxious why the shape was strange compared to others.Surprisingly, it was very difficult to make the same thing as I imagined.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, it becomes horrible appearance like this\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Surprisingly, I couldn\u2019t stop loving my confection although it was ugly-looking (lol).<\/p>\n<p>Finally, I added eyes and a mouth to the piece.\u00a0 I added tiny <em>yokan<\/em> for eyes. \u00a0I used a tool of confectionery to make a mouth.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5465\" pack.<\/p>\n<p>What made me happier was that I could have one confection that was sold at the shop for free and I got a discount coupon that could be used at the shop.<br \/>\nWhy don\u2019t you go to
